a legacy of giving

Affiliated with The Garden Club of America, Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc., National Garden Clubs, Inc., and New England Garden Clubs, Inc., the club has partnered with community leaders for nearly a century to positively impact the town and residents with lasting contributions through education, beautification, and environmental programs. Following are examples of the club’s wide variety of projects supporting and engaging our community. Please click What We Do on the menu above and visit the page 'A Legacy of Giving' for a complete list. Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center - major funding toward the purchase of the Coogan Farm Giving Garden. Stonington Land Trust - Centennial Tree Project (22 trees). Holiday Greens arrangements are created by our members for local care facilities bringing seasonal cheer to those confined to rehabilitation and nursing homes. Seasonal Wreaths crafted by members and donated by the club decorate the Stonington Free Library, the COMO, the Lighthouse Museum, the Captain Palmer House Museum, and the Borough Post Office. Club members also decorate wreaths for the Stonington Historical Society's Deck the Walls fundraiser. The Floral Booth at the annual COMO Village Fair sells bouquets and plants to raise funds for the COMO. Additionally, grants are given to organizations dedicated to conservation and environment.

gardening & learning

The garden club strives to bring beauty to our community while enriching it with educational projects. Past and Present projects include: The COMO Children's Learning Garden designed and established in 1997 in partnership with the Stonington Community Center (COMO). The club has since maintained and enhanced the garden to provide an “experiential living” classroom teaching sustainable gardening practices to the COMO kids. NatureScapes, a natural science program that funds curriculum and an annual field trip to the Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center for every third grade class in the town of Stonington (private, public, parochial). Environmental Scholarships to qualified Stonington High School seniors interested in pursuing environmental studies. Teaching gardens & funding for afterschool garden programs. Funding for talks on careers in agriculture at Stonington High School. Please click What We Do on the menu above and visit pages 'Gardens in Our Care' and 'A Legacy of Giving' for further information.
